Rush Order: Moog Ball Joint Boots, Moog Inner Tie Rods, and What the White Part of a Spark Plug Is Made Of

The phone rang at 4:13 p.m. on a Tuesday. I remember the exact time because I was one foot out the door.

It was Ray, a shop owner I've worked with for years. His tech had a work van on the lift with a torn ball joint boot. The van had to be back at the fleet yard by 7 a.m. If it wasn't, the shop was looking at a $250-per-day penalty and a dent in one of their biggest accounts.

Most of the time, you don't need a new caliper. You need to clean the pins, re-grease them, and replace the rubber boots if they're torn.

What Is the White Part of a Spark Plug Made Of?

Lessons From a Not-So-Straightforward Rush Job

No part lasts forever. The goal is to catch a wearable part before it becomes a tow bill and a missed deadline.
